Q:Do National Forest Recreation Areas charge entrance fees?
A:Except Hehuanshan National Recreation Area, all tourists are required to pay an entrance fee. For relevant information about the entrance fee for each National Forest Recreation Area and the updates for available concessions, please click “Destination” on the web page, or follow the link to Taiwan Forest Recreation , the “Taiwan Forest Recreation website” owned by the Forestry Bureau, for further inquiries.

Q:Is it obligatory to apply for a Mountain Entry Permit?
A:Tourists are only required to pay an entrance fee upon entering National Forest Recreation Areas. The application for a Mountain Entry Permit is not required.

Food and Beverage Services

Q:Are there food and beverage services available in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:Except Neidong National Forest Recreation Area, food and beverage services are available. Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is close to Wulai Old Street and Fushan Village (Tranan). Tourists are suggested to try authentic local cuisine and delicacies in the neighborhood.

Q:Are there western-style foods and beverages available in the National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:Chinese-style foods, beverages, or light meals are currently the main options listed on the menus.

Q:Are halal food and beverage services for Muslim travelers available in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A: Vegetarian foods are listed on the food and beverage menu offered in every National Forest Recreation Areas; however, halal food and beverage services for Muslim travelers are not yet available.

A:Both Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area and Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area are close to Qingjing Farm, it’s suggested that tourists contact B&B services available in the nearby areas for further information. For other accommodation available in the neighborhood of Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, it’s best for tourists to contact hotels in Dongshi District, Taichung City for room reservations and relevant travel information.

Q:How to plan the travel itineraries in National Forest Recreation Areas?

Q:Is traveling with pets allowed in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:According to the Statute for Prevention Control of Infectious Animal Diseases, tourists are not allowed to travel with pets in National Forest Recreation Areas, but the restriction does not apply to those tourists having a visual or hearing impairment, or with physical disabilities; they are allowed to travel with a certified guide dog, a service dog for the deaf, or a mobility assistance dog.

Q:Is there free WiFi available?
A:Every National Forest Recreation Area provides tourists with free WiFi access services. Please stop by the Visitor Center for more information.

Q:Is smoking allowed in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:Smoking is banned in all places throughout National Forest Recreation Areas.

Q:Is camping, barbeque, or cooking on a charcoal grill allowed in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:To ensure high environmental quality and ecosystem conservation in National Forest Recreation Areas, tourists are not permitted to camp, use barbecues, or cook on a charcoal grill.

Q:What is the temperature in National Forest Recreation Areas? How do tourists plan clothes for a trip?

Q:Are locker or baggage storage services available?
A:Except Neidong National Forest Recreation Area, locker or baggage storage services are available for general tourists.
1. In Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area, Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, and Kenting National Forest Recreation Area, tourists can stop by the Visitor Center for more information.
2. In Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, tourists can stop by the Visitor Center or use the coin lockers at the entrance of the terminal station.
3. At Hehuanshan Song Syueh Lodge, there’s a service for baggage storage available from 7 am to 8 pm (according to the office reception hours).
4. Due to limited space in Neidong National Forest Recreation Area, there’s no service for baggage storage.

Q:Is there a lost-and-found facility in National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:Tourists can call or go to the Visitor Center in the National Forest Recreation Area to get the necessary help.

Q:Is there a travel guide for each National Forest Recreation Area?
AOn the official website, tourists can download the files in both the English version and the Japanese version. To get the paper travel guide, tourists can request hard copies from the Visitor Center or Tourist Service Center. (Availability is limited.)

Q:What precautions should tourists take before taking a trip to a higher altitude mountain area?
A
1. Before the trip, make sure you’re fit to travel and have the medications you need. People who have health conditions not appropriate for outdoor activities, such as heart disease, acrophobia, high blood pressure, or are currently pregnant; or, people who are underage or with a physical condition and cannot finish the trip independently. If altitude sickness or a health condition occurs, the person needs to immediately be escorted to a lower altitude.
2. Climate changes rapidly in mountains, please bring warm clothes and an umbrella or a raincoat. Be sure to plan outfits in advance.
3. Cash withdrawal service is rarely available in mountains, please take enough cash with you when traveling.
4. Whoever is taking trips to high mountains should respect, preserve, and protect nature as well as follow the rule of mountaineering, “leaving no trace”.

Traffic Information

Q: How to reach National Forest Recreation Areas?
A:There’s different transportation available to reach National Forest Recreation Areas; besides public transportation, tourists can reach destinations by driving or a charter vehicle. Reminders: Due to the locations of most National Forest Recreation Areas being in mountains, tourists who take public transportation need to take several transfers before reaching their destination. Q: I’d like to know detailed information about the Alishan Forest Railway train schedule, the list of ticket prices, and reservation instructions.
A:1. Online booking: Passengers can book tickets in advance from 1 to 15 days before departure (including the departure date); for example, on Monday, passengers can book a train that departs the Monday after next. However, every Friday passengers can book a train that departs the Sunday after next, that means you have two extra days for booking the train in advance ahead of departure. (For example, on Fridays, passengers can book a train that departs on the Friday, the Saturday, or the Sunday after next). 2. Buy a ticket at the station: Passengers can buy tickets in advance 12 days before departure (including the departure date).

Q: What’s the train schedule for visitors to see the sunrise in Alishan?
A: Because the sunrise time changes daily with seasons throughout the year, the train timetable is changed according to the sunrise times and the number of passengers each day. The first train departures as early as 4 am in summer and 6 am during winter. The updated train timetable is announced in advance on the day after 4 pm before departure. Q:I’d like to plan a road trip through the mountains, are there gas stations in the neighborhood of national forest recreation areas?
A: Because most national forest recreation areas are located in the mountain ranges, it’s best to fill up your vehicle’s gas tank downtown before heading up the mountain.
