The Waterfall Zone Trail is the coolest mountain trail in the Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area.
The Waterfall Zone Trail lies beside the retention basin and has a total length of 1km. It starts at the Taipower retention basin, which was used for water resource management. The trail goes up under the shade of lush trees along the retention basin, and it takes about 30 minutes’ easy hiking to reach Aowanda’s Flying Waterfall and Double Waterfalls.
With a vertical drop of 48m without interruption, the Flying Waterfall is considered the most spectacular wonder. Standing on the Waterfall-viewing Platform, visitors can listen to the waterfall with their eyes closed and absorb the invigorating phytoncides and negative ions for noticeable forest therapy. During the high flow season between May and August, the Flying Waterfall charges the air with more powerful water. Going downhill on the steps, visitors can see the small but distinct layers of Double Waterfalls; different from the swift and strong Flying Waterfall, the Double Waterfalls with a series of thin and delicate cascades offer more approachable view; particularly the ferns growing alongside the track make visitors stroll at a slower, natural pace; either standing or sitting, they enjoy relaxing moments and overwhelmingly pure leisure in nature.
Taking a proper distance, you can enjoy the duet performed by the Double Waterfalls and the Flying Waterfall. Have a journey of forest therapy at a slow and more relaxing pace; it’s about how life should be spent on beautiful things.
