Heartbeats from wooded mountains - Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area
Breaking through the imagination of the national forest recreation area, Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area allows one to travel from the seaside to the mountains at an altitude of more than 3,000m within one day. With its convenient public transport, Hehuanshan is the friendliest of all the mountains in Taiwan, making Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area the most enticing of all.
Often veiled in mist, the scenery of a continuous sea of clouds that reflects the setting sun can at times create the illusion of being surrounded by misty mountains. With its mild climate and four distinct seasons, the temperatures at Hehuanshan are consistently low throughout the year. As the scenery varies greatly, it is the best spot to view and admire the characteristic landscape of Taiwan’s mountains. Springtime, from April to May, is the season when Rhododendron pseudochrysanthum Hayata is in full bloom. Ornamented with the dazzling pink and white sea of flowers, the major flower viewing hotspots include the four tourist attractions of Xiaoqilai Trail, Mt. Shihmen, Mt. Hehuan East Peak and Mt. Hehuan Point. There are also the evergreen forest boundary formed by Taiwan white fir and Yushan cane and alpine-limited birds such as Alpine accentor, Vinaceous rosefinch, White-whiskered Laughingthrush among others. Instead of striving for the summit, stop to enjoy the extensive view on the way.
