Introduction to transportation

Taiwan High Speed RailTaiwan High Speed Rail
Taiwan High Speed Rail serves the major cities on the west side of Taiwan, including Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung. It travels along the western part of Taiwan at the highest speed of 300km per hour, saving a lot of time when traveling from city to city.

Taiwan RailwaysTaiwan Railways (Train service)
Taiwan Railways offers train services connecting all big and small cities around Taiwan with a network of railway lines. Though train tickets are cheaper than the high speed rail, trains are somewhat slower. It’s a convenient option for certain areas, including the Limited Express services of the Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, Tze-Chiang Limited, Chu-Kuang Express, Fu-Hsing Semi Express, Fast Local Trains and local trains, all of which offer different classes of travel.

MRTMRT (Mass Rapid Transit)
The MRT is the most convenient form of inner-city public transportation. So far, MRT systems are only available in Taipei, Kaohsiung and the route from Taipei city to Taoyuan International Airport. Most of the tourist spots in Taipei can be visited by taking the MRT directly.
EasyCard is the most convenient way to pay so you don’t need to keep buying tickets. However, please be reminded that eating or drinking is not allowed in MRT stations or in the cabins.

City Bus ServicesCity Bus Services
City bus services are available in all cities of Taiwan. City buses run unusually with intensive shifts but please check the bus schedule first before you visit the mountain area as schedules and routes to those areas may be limited.

Alishan Forest RailwayAlishan Forest Railway
This railway line was originally built for transporting wood and living supplies in the old days. Now it has been transformed into a tourist train for forest tours. It starts from Chiayi station in Chiayi City and terminates at Shizilu station in Alishan Township, Chiayi County.
There are also three lines available: the Shenmu line, Zhaoping line, and Chushan line.

It passes through all the key tourist attractions in Taiwan and stops at key stations of Taiwan Railways and the Taiwan High Speed Rail. It can fulfill tourist's needs when traveling extensively with good ticket fares and a convenient bus schedule.

Long Distance Bus ServicesLong Distance Bus Services
There are buses for traveling long distances that run between the cities with busy time schedules. They are convenient, and some popular routes run 24 hr a day. Buses are cheaper than trains and are comfortable, so they are a commonly used method of transport in Taiwan.

Charter serviceCharter service
This is a flexible way to travel as you can plan your tour based on your preferences and available time. With the help of a professional driver, you can visit any places you like. The charter service is a relaxing and easy option if you don’t want to drive yourself or take public transportation.

Self-DrivingSelf-Driving
In addition to public transportation, a self-driving tour is another good choice. If you want to visit the mountains or remote areas in Taiwan, driving by yourself may be more convenient for you. If you would like to rent a car to drive, please ensure you have your international driving license, domestic driving license and passport to rent a car legally.
